The Quantum Connection, by Travis S. Taylor

This book is a sequel to Warp Speed by Taylor.

Both books read a bit like a Heinlein novel. Unfortunately, the Heinlein novel they read most like is The Number of the Beast. If you've never read The Number of the Beast, you're not missing much (unless you buy the argument that it isn't the story that's important, but the subtext. See http://www.heinleinsociety.org/rah/numberbeast.html for more on that).

Characterization is shallow in Quantum Connection, and the book is more focused on the science involved than in telling a quality story. The plot races along, and I ended up with no real investment in the outcome, especially since I knew exactly how it would turn out. There was no sense of risk to any of the characters except toward the very beginning.

On the other hand, the science involved is interesting, and if you want to see what some of the current scientific thought might give rise to in future years, both Warp Speed and Quantum Connection are good reads for that reason alone.

But if you're looking for a quality story, well-told, I'd give this one a pass. If you want to purchase it, though, you can do so through Amazon.com
